We have a wedding registry question...?

My fiance and I plan on registering at three stores within the next few months. The problem is, we're unsure of the style we'd like. Also, we plan on living in house someday, but for now live in a small two-bedroom apt. So here's my question: What's the best way to go about registry? Should we look products up on the computer first (using a checklist) and get some ideas of what we're looking for? Or should we use our checklist, go to the store, and just go for things we like when we see them? Any suggestions?

Usually store you set up registries at will give you a list of recommended items to register for, not specific items, but a general list, like "blender, 12 place settings, etc" that are organized by room/function. When my husband and I registered, we picked a mix of things we wanted for our current apartment (matching throw pillows, small kitchen appliances, etc) and then some longer term items, like high quality white bath towels and our china pattern (12 place settings). We only received 6 place settings as gifts, but for our small apartment, we couldn't host more people than that for dinner anyways. But now that it's on our registry, the store keeps the list for 10 years or something like that, so we can always go buy the extras for ourselves later, when we have more money and house to fill. For the longer term items you just want to pick neutral colours and styles that will be timeless. Our china pattern is really simple silver edge on the white china, so it won't be out of style in 10 years when we still have it. That's why registering for white or beige towels is good. You can have the high quality towels that will last for years and look good with most decor, even if you change your apartment style. Okay, my wedding is in two months, so I was wondering if I listen what I've done and what I know I need to do if anyone could tell me if I've forgotten anything? Things done: Wedding dress bought bridesmaid dresses bought women's shoes bought flowers reserved church reserved priest reserved invites stuffed registry done cake topper, bridesmaid makeup, quest book, cake cutter and server, guest book pen, and ring bearer pillow bought rose petals bought flower girl dress bought (and basket and her shoes) veil bought jewelry bought hairstylist booked and has worked with hair and veil already hotel room reserved lingerie bought rehearsal planned (along with dinner for wedding party) mother of the bride dress bought rings re-sized someone making punch photography reserved piano player reserved Things not yet done that I can think of: groomsmen attire groom's tux invites addressed and sent out ring bearer's tux reserved mother of the groom dress not bought cake design is decided on, but haven't talked to cake lady about it yet premarital counseling centerpieces not bought volunteers not for sure yet (nursery, punch pourers, etc) small columns to set ceremony flowers on I know I'm not remembering a bunch in both column. Can anyone else think of anything? yeah well, I'm poor =) Yeah, I'm only having a cake ceremony, so I just need someone to pour punch and cut cake. No toasting glasses. Thanks for reminding me about the marriage license- I keep forgetting. My mom's making the punch. yes, the reception hall is with the church. and gifts are accounted for. Thanks! I'm trying to stay organized. I'm slighty OCD I think, lol. At least, this wedding has made me so. Oh, and I tell my fiance I love him everyday. =) Thanks! no programs got the flower girl (since I have the dress silly ;-) ) got thank you notes invites are getting addressed just driving the grooms car for transportation no honeymoon, just a hotel (honeymoon in the summer) no favors no dj since it's a cake reception- just a wedding music cd and a stereo that's one of the volunteers we need is the guestbook no garter ( I think it's tacky ) this is a good idea though-pack an emergency kit with little things like safety pins, stain remover pen, tylenol. Thanks you guys!!! =) So basically I had forgotten the marraige license and an emergency kit. Those will come in handy, lol.

The only mention of food is someone to pour punch, thats new. Oh someone making punch too. The wedding toast glasses. Marriage liscense. I take it the wedding is at an all inclusive location as well as the reception too? Small gifts for the matron of honor and brides maids. Small gifts for the best man and groomsmen. You seem like you are really organized!! Congraduations!!

If you can, check out www.weddingchannel.com. Fantastic registry information. But the best information about registering is at Macys. They have a registry consultant who gives you not only a checklist of registry items, but list of how many gifts per price range you should register for based on your guest list. It was the best help I ever got when registering.

Can you give me etiquette help concerning the wording on our WEDsite link to registry?

Basically, I have wasted waaay too much time fussing over how to appropriately (and simply) word the section on our wedding website that links our registry. I understand that some people think it is tacky to link our registries on our wedsite, but I am doing this because many of the guests that will want this information would not know who to ask other than me and I don't want to be tacky in answering their questions. Does that make sense? Haha. With that said...I also want to word the couple of sentences before our registry links in a way that show that although the gifts would be appreciated, we do not expect them. Plus, we figure that if someone is going to go out of their way to gift us that we would rather them feel confident that their gift is something we need or will enjoy instead of return. Cna you please help me word this because I am waaaaaaay too worried about this and it's stopping me from doing the other pressing needs I am behind with on my week-end wedding checklist! Is it a good or bad idea to put excercise equipment?

on a wedding registry? I had thought of it, but figured it was tacky or something, but then going through an online registry checklist, it listed various excercise stuff. Would you (or have you) added such stuff to your registry or not?

Sure! Put in on there! I'd do it and i think you should too! If they think its tacky they wont buy it for you.. but a wedding gift registry is for anything you want, not necessarily just things for the kitchen or laundry! =)

What registry item did you forget/wish you asked for?

My friend and I are going with our guys this weekend to do a wedding registry. I made a list of things we need using a couple of online checklists. I also asked for a BBQ grill, because my fiance's sister got one from her registry and I think it is awesome, and I already have a nice set of luggage. Is there anything you forgot? Please help us so we don't forget anything :)

An electric skillet, and an electric griddle. I didn't have either on my registry and got both. I love them it makes cooking and clean up super easy! I seriously use them multiple times a week. Bathroom scale, thermometer, heating pads, hot pads, dish towels, totes, cake takers, rugs/doormats, message center (somewhere to put outgoing bills, incoming mail, pens, stamps, keys, etc), shelves, over the door hangers (for towels and such) full length mirror, containers to put left over food in, blinds/curtains. . . I hope this helps some.

Can I register for furniture???

My fiance and I are registering for our wedding, but we are not sure whether it is "proper" to register for furniture. We haven't seen it listed on any registry checklists, but it is the main thing we need. Of course, we registered for other items, so there will be plenty of options for everyones price range. The furniture is rather inexpensive for furniture but still expensive for a wedding gift (ranging from $50 to $350). According to the stores registry completion discount, my fiance and I will recieve a 20% discount on any unpurchased items for a year after the wedding. I do not expect anyone to purchase these items by themselves, but I know that sometimes people buy group gifts. We would like to take advantage of that discount, considering that we want the furniture regardless of the registry. I'm just worried that some catty family members (from both sides) will see $250 or $350 items and make a fuss over it. Is registering for furniture proper? What should I do???

It depends on a lot of things. No, I've never heard of it before, but the price range is within what most people pay for wedding gifts these days, so why not? Especially if you have plenty of low priced items on your registry. Nobody expects to get everything that they registered for, it's a guideline. And people always have the option of giving you something that isn't on the registry. You're not "demanding" presents. You're right, the higher priced items may actually be an ideal group gift from friends or co-workers. And if guests choose to give you cash, you can tell them in your Thank You note that their cash helped you purchase the sofa (or whatever) that you just love (and email them a digital pic of what they helped give you). And frankly, if the store offers it for registry, then obviously it's "done". Explain to the catty members that you're registering for the higher priced items so that you can receive a discount, and that you're not in anyway expecting them to purchase anything beyond their means (even if you do secretly hope someone will come up with it). That you know that whatever they select for you will be perfect because it came from their heart. That should stop their tongues from wagging. In fact, you can really shut them up by telling them what you truly want is for them to be there for your special day (who needs stuff from people like that anyway). Then THEY'LL look catty for making an issue of questioning your registry. Every family has judgemental members, and everyone else in the family know who they are and hopefully don't think much of their judgements. Cattiness is bad etiquette, by definition. The ideal thing would be if the furniture's at a separate store than everything else, and you just don't tell the catty folks about it (and you'll still get the discount). You can spread it by word of mouth to others that want other suggestions that you're also registered at the furniture store. Good luck to you and your new life!
